Delta

Coffee table / by

At first glance, Delta appears as though it has been sculpted by the wind. Organic in form, smoothed and hollowed by a slow, invisible force, it embodies the essence of the research that underpins the entire Erosion collection by Zaha Hadid Architects.

Shaped by Nature

Delta seems to emerge from an almost accidental process, as though shaped by the patient, relentless action of wind upon matter rather than by a deliberate collaboration between NEUTRA and Zaha Hadid Architects.

More than any other piece in the Erosion collection, it captures the essence of the project: an exploration of marble pushed to the very edge of its possibilities.

Here, the material is transformed. The inherent solidity of stone gradually gives way to a sense of movement and lightness, as volumes stretch, taper and open along fluid trajectories. What appears effortless, however, is the result of meticulous design and craftsmanship. Every curve, every recess and every opening have been carefully sculpted to recreate the spontaneity of natural erosion, balancing removal and preservation with extraordinary precision.

Carved from a single block of marble, Delta is conceived as a volume hollowed from within, where solid and void coexist in seamless continuity.

The Illusion of Lightness

For all its sculptural presence, Delta possesses a remarkable sense of lightness.

This perception arises largely from the way light interacts with its surface. Polished areas capture and scatter light, while matte finishes absorb it, generating a subtle interplay of reflections and shadows that shift throughout the day and changes with every viewpoint. The marble seems almost animated, revealing different depths, contours and textures as the light evolves.

The eye is drawn through the piece, following surfaces that fold, open and recede into the material. Cavities emerge unexpectedly, perspectives overlap, and new details gradually come into focus. It is a visual journey that continuously reveals new perspectives, never fully resolved, never entirely exhausted.
