With this project, Migliore+Servetto explore and expand the expressive potential of natural stone, creating immersive environments that engage the senses and invite interaction.
Material Refinement
NEUTRA’s deep affinity with marble and natural stone, combined with Migliore+Servetto’s sensitive interpretation of the material, finds a compelling expression in Corbula.
Defined by essential lines and rigorous geometry, the piece reveals its true sophistication through its material composition: a dialogue between the purity of stone and the contemporary elegance of metal. A satin-finished aluminium structure supports two ultra-thin marble panels—just 3 mm thick—that form the front and back of the cabinet, both carved from the same slab. This creates a seamless continuity of veining and colour across the surfaces, interrupted only by the delicate framework, which appears almost weightless.
The result is a subtle interplay of presence and transparency, solidity and lightness. The doors, arranged within a precise geometric grid, open effortlessly with a simple touch, eliminating the need for visible handles. Inside, a marble back panel extends the visual narrative, allowing the experience of the material to continue uninterrupted. Gently raised above the floor, Corbula is conceived as a highly versatile architectural element. It can sit against a wall, occupy the centre of a room, or function as a freestanding screen, shaping and defining spaces in both residential interiors and hospitality settings.
Decorative Matter
Corbula’s doors embody the most advanced expression of NEUTRA’s ongoing research into natural stone. Here, craftsmanship and innovation converge in a process that transforms a functional element into a decorative statement. Each door is meticulously milled with a pattern of concentric circles that reveal the depth and richness of the marble. Achieving this effect requires absolute precision and an exceptional understanding of the material, knowledge gained through decades of artisanal expertise and technological refinement.
Only such mastery makes it possible to sculpt the stone’s surface while preserving its structural integrity. The result is a richly tactile finish that enhances the three-dimensional character of the marble. Light grazes the engraved surface, creating subtle shifts in depth and perception, in a continuous dialogue between shadow, texture and luminosity. A detail that speaks of NEUTRA’s savoir-faire and of marble’s extraordinary capacity for transformation.
