This is the vision behind the Double sideboard and bar cabinet by Gabriele and Oscar Buratti. More than simple storage pieces, they are sculptural, unexpected and boldly expressive objects.
From Surface to Space
Traditionally, furnishing pieces are designed to complement a space. Double challenges this notion, stepping confidently into the spotlight as a defining element of the interior.
Whether in its sideboard or bar cabinet version, it draws the eye through a composition of volumes and lines that shape the surrounding environment as much as they occupy it.
Designed by Gabriele and Oscar Buratti, Double is conceived as a dynamic architectural presence for contemporary living spaces. Beyond its practical function of storing and organising, it can also structure, divide and articulate interiors through its strong spatial identity. Positioned against a wall, Double creates a dramatic material backdrop; placed at the centre of a room, it takes on the presence of a freestanding sculpture, commanding attention from every perspective.
A Play of Volumes
Double emerges from the interplay of two distinct geometric elements: a pure, carefully proportioned volume and an open supporting structure defined by angled cuts and sharply articulated edges. Together, they create a composition that feels both rigorous and dynamic.
The base reveals the essence of NEUTRA’s design language. Sculpted in stone with a strong architectural presence, it extends into the back panel, reinforcing the continuity of the composition and celebrating the expressive qualities of the material. Lacquered wood doors introduce a contrasting texture and warmth, creating a sophisticated dialogue between different surfaces and sensory experiences. From this balance of materials and volumes emerge two interpretations, a horizontal sideboard and a vertical bar cabinet, each characterized by a refined sense of proportion and visual dynamism. The elevated composition allows light to pass through and around the structure, enhancing the relationship between solids and voids and generating a constantly shifting play of depth and perspective.
With Double, Gabriele and Oscar Buratti continue the design research initiated with the ADYM table and bookcase, exploring furniture as a form of domestic architecture. The result is a sculptural object whose expressive strength never overshadows its purpose, remaining deeply connected to the rituals and functions of everyday living.
